First graders have been focusing on identifying lines and shapes within various artworks, and are currently creating their own unique peice of art which incorporates these elements of design. Some of the paintings that they have studied have been by painter Wassily Kandinsky.
This is a video of one of our first grade students painting her lines and shapes on the background of her artwork. Below is a clip of Wassily Kandinsky painting lines and shapes. We discussed how important it is to think about our artwork before we begin working on it, and decide where we want to place our lines and shapes in the composition.
