Fourth graders have been focusing on value and contrast within their artwork. They are creating a fall sky by using charcoal pencils to shade in the detail of the moon and the night sky. They will then use tempera paint to paint a fall tree against their background, creating contrast within their artwork. We are encouraging students to "draw from observation", meaning they are looking at a tree in front of them as they draw. This is a skill that can easily be practiced at home!
